John has a Bachelor of Arts from the State University of New York at Stony Brook with a Masters degree in History. However, he didn’t find his true vocation until he began working with individuals with developmental disabilities in 1996. His introduction to the field was at the direct support level working for an agency in New York, The Center for Developmental Disabilities. In the course of his 10 years with The Center, John supervised a 60 person team in the Supported Employment program. Then John lead the Center’s Day Habilitation program helping individuals participate in daily community based activities supported by staff. In 2006, John moved to Colorado to accept a position with Mesa Developmental Services in Grand Junction. As the Vocational Services Director, his responsibilities included overseeing staff supporting individuals as they participated in different day hab and vocational programs.
In 2012, John began working with Mountain Valley Developmental Services. He currently leads a department providing day habilitation services to approximately 100 individuals. These services vary from providing work experience in a greenhouse or our downtown store, helping individuals maintain community based jobs, and providing enriching and educational activities both in the community and at our agency. We provide a full spectrum of services to meet the varied interests and needs of those we support as they seek to define their own lives in their own manner.
