Enrichment Services

Enrichment services continue to strive for quality support and joy in the lives of every adult who comes to the Mountain Valley Developmental Services’ weekday Day Programs in Glenwood Springs, Silt and Minturn, Colorado. Our Day Programs support participants by guiding and stewardship, learning, and acquisition of new skills and retention of previously learned skills. We offer community participation and social interaction with staff, peers and community in a variety of settings.
With a focus on person-centered care, adult participants work alongside others engaging in activities and pursuing interests while building relationships and continuing community outreach. The Community Connections’ enrichment programs provide activities highlighted by group art, recreation and community activities. We have many partners and opportunities out in community that provide excursions to the hot springs pool, art galleries, as well as snowshoeing, skiing, hiking, biking, rafting, drumming, fishing, and playing games in the park, bocce, and bowling. We have a very active and successful Special Olympics team! The MVDS four-County catchment area includes many communities from Leadville to Vail to Glenwood Springs and Rulison that also have much to offer with events such as concerts, rodeos, fundraisers, dances, theatrical productions, local high school football, basketball, and baseball games, and so much more.

The Athlete application is required annually for participation by all athletes (with intellectual disabilities). This form asks for contact information, health history, waivers, releases and code of conduct. These help us create a safe and supportive environment, ensuring everyone’s health, safety, and dignity are respected. Once approved, the application clears an athlete for participation for one year across all Special Olympics Colorado’s sports and events.
*Athletes do not have to be a participant of a MVDS adult services program to play sports!
