In Time for the Holidays: A Celebration of Art!

 In Uncategorized

First, a note of gratitude to Joyce Webb and all others who put on the wonderful “Meet the Artists of Art on 8th” event on Friday, October 25th. It was a well-attended event by both artists and the public. With delicious appetizers and drinks to share, people were welcome to wander the gallery, checking out and discussing the latest art pieces and woven Items displayed.

November Event

Art on 8th Gallery of Fine Craft and Weaving Studio is an exhibition space dedicated to the high-quality fine craft in all mediums. It is home to a weaving program that has become a meaningful career for many Mountain Valley clientele. Most of the woven pieces you will find in our store are lovingly made by individuals served by MVDS. Art on 8th is also a gallery for established and emerging local artists. It’s a space that brings the community together, to support one another, and create a positive environment for people.

Artists’ Words

Esther stated that although she has worked with children in the past, she has come to love working with adults. She has learned so much in her time with Art on 8th and believes that it’s the clientele that is teaching her. Every day brings a new experience and there is always a story to be shared. Some of her favorite aspects of working here are getting to be creative with setting up the looms and choosing colors for future projects and experiencing the joy in watching how it all comes together, transformed into so many different, useful products.

Brian, a Mountain Valley Weaver, makes towels, ponchos, blankets, and so much more. He washes and dries the products and helps in any area that he’s needed. He loves getting to be a part of Art on 8th and make some wonderful items that add value in people’s homes.

There were many local Colorado artists who were present at the event. Robin Shinn, from Evolve Jewelry Design, lives in Golden, Colorado, and makes her jewelry with stones that are inspired by the Rocky Mountains and the natural elements that are present here in Colorado. She got into jewelry making because she loves working with her hands and with metal and wanted to be able to create unique, personal adornments for people to value and treasure.

Another local artist in attendance from New Castle, Colorado, was Ann Ramsey from Ann Ramsey Photography. She creates dreamlike and mystical worlds through the art of photo compositions. When asked, she said her inspirations come from nature and her love of birds. You will find a lot of those two aspects represented in her art. Her artwork is on display at Art on 8th in various sizes. Stop in and you may find the perfect piece that speaks to you. Ann was a great support for this event in helping out with our poster.
